Borne, Ludwig
(1786-1837)
   German writer. Born in Frankfurt am Main, he studied medicine in Giessen and Berlin. Later he studied law, political science, and administration in Heidelberg. He became a police actuary in Frankfurt, but lost his position with the defeat of Napoleon. He converted to Protestantism. With Heinrich Heine, he was the initiator of the German feuilleton. His volumes of Briefe aus Paris first appeared in 1832. His writings in favour of Jewish emancipation include Fur die Juden and Der ewige Jude.
